Welcoming Our New Zulu Ecosystem Team Members

19 November 2025

Over the last five months, we have welcomed some new Zulu team members to help scale our mission.

Over the last five months, we’ve been strengthening our team with five exceptional talents across science, technology, and commercial leadership – all united by a shared mission: to accelerate nature-based restoration at scale.

We are really excited by the work that has already been accomplished by our new joiners, and can't wait to continue building with them, reaching new heights in nature restoration!

Maarten Van Roon, CCO
Louise de Raad, Lead Ecologist (Scotland)

Maarten Van Roon joined as Chief Commercial Officer

Maarten brings deep expertise in building high-integrity commercial partnerships, scaling innovative solutions, and unlocking investment to deliver large-scale environmental impact. His experience spans cleantech, carbon solutions, and market development across international contexts – critical as we accelerate restoration at landscape level.

Motivated by a belief that nature is the foundational asset underpinning society, Maarten is passionate about regenerating ecosystems that have long been undervalued and under-protected. He sees nature-based solutions as one of the most elegant and effective ways to achieve both ecological restoration and carbon sequestration to meet climate goals.

Dr Louise de Raad joined as our Lead Ecologist in Scotland

Louise brings over a decade of conservation expertise and a lifelong passion for nature restoration. Her background includes serving as Head of Research and Director of the Scottish demonstration farm for The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust, backed by a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from Durham University and advanced degrees in Nature Conservation from Wageningen University.

Working alongside our Operations team, Louise is already applying deep scientific expertise to drive continuous improvement in ecosystem restoration across Scotland.

Jonathan Willett, Commercial Lead (Scotland)
Tom Watt, Principal Engineer

Jonathan Willett joined as Commercial Lead in Scotland

With over a decade of experience in land management, estate strategy, and sustainable development across the Scottish Highlands – alongside an Executive MBA focused on nature finance – Jonny brings deep expertise and fresh perspective to our team.

His appointment strengthens our commitment to connect landowners, investors, and communities in delivering credible, nature-positive restoration grounded in science, finance, and long-term stewardship. Jonny has already hit the ground running, energizing our growing portfolio of projects in Scotland.

“I’m passionate about creating lasting environmental and commercial value for landowners – restoring landscapes for future generations.”

Tom Watt joined as our new Principal Engineer

Tom joins us at an exciting time as we scale our work across new sectors, new customers, and new solutions. In his first month, he has already contributed to the evolution of our core platform and will continue to expand the analytics and innovative products that power our mission.

With years of experience scaling early-stage startups — working with customers like Amazon, Citibank, and Bank of America — Tom brings a wealth of knowledge paired with a passion for positive climate impact.

“When technology and ecology work together, restoration becomes not just possible, but scalable.”

Ramani Lachyan, Senior Geospatial Data Scientist

Ramani Lachyan joined as Senior Geospatial Data Scientist

Ramani strengthens our data and analytics capability, bringing advanced geospatial expertise to support restoration planning and monitoring. Her work will help us harness spatial intelligence to identify, optimise and design interventions that deliver measurable ecological and climate benefits at scale.

Looking ahead

These appointments reflect our commitment to combining science, technology, and finance to restore ecosystems at scale. Together, we’re building landscapes that work with nature, not against it.
